A little about myself

I am a professional Asian woman in her mid-30s who decided to try online dating to be "efficient" in finding a partner.  As we get older, the ways in which we meet people are limited.  Most of us are not in school anymore, where the source of meeting new people is lavish.  We meet people through friends, randomly (e.g., at bars, at events, on the subway/bus), at work (but the number of new people is limited), or at singles events (e.g., speed dating).
 

How it started

With the help of a friend, I signed up on one of the more popular online dating websites.  My friend suggested that I choose a dating website where one pays for the service because free websites may consist of more people who are interested in less serious relationships.  In addition, a website that matches you based on demographics, preferences, and interests would more likely lead to finding a partner (rather than a fling).  It took us 3-4 hours to fill out my profile, which consisted of many questions about demographics, personality and interests.  Immediately after submitting payment, I received a list of matches, and within an hour, I received several emails from men.  I was surprised at the rapidity, especially given it was a Saturday night, so I guess they really are single...

I met a wonderful man and got married a couple of years later.  However, I will continue to blog on relationship issues, as they can still occur in marriage.
